How to access another computer remotely
To access another computer remotely, install a remote desktop app such as Dhatas Remote on both PCs, enter the other PC's 9-digit ID, and have the person there click Accept. Their screen then appears on yours and you can control it with your mouse and keyboard. It is free and takes about two minutes.
Step by step
- Install Dhatas Remote on both PCsDownload the free installer from this website and run it on your computer and on the computer you want to reach. Each PC gets a permanent 9-digit ID.
- Ask for the other PC's IDThe person at the other computer opens Dhatas Remote and reads you the 9-digit ID shown under "Your ID".
- Enter the ID and click ConnectOn your computer, type the ID into "Control another PC" and click Connect.
- The other person clicks AcceptA request appears on their screen with your PC's name and ID. Nothing happens until they click Accept.
- Control the remote PCTheir screen appears on yours. Use your mouse and keyboard as if you were sitting in front of it. Click End when you are done.
What you need
- Two Windows 10 or Windows 11 computers with an internet connection.
- Someone at the other computer to click Accept, or an unattended access password if it is your own PC.
- Nothing else: no account, no router settings, no port forwarding, no VPN.
Does it work on different networks?
Yes. The two PCs can be in different cities and on different networks, including office broadband, home Wi-Fi and a mobile hotspot. Dhatas Remote first tries a direct connection between the PCs. If a network blocks that, it automatically uses an encrypted relay server, so the session still connects.
Accessing your own PC when nobody is there
To reach your own office or home computer without anyone clicking Accept, open Security in Dhatas Remote on that PC, set an access password and turn on Unattended access. Also turn on Start with Windows in Settings so the PC stays reachable after a restart. Then connect with the ID and the password. Read the full unattended access guide.
Tips for a smooth session
- On a slow or mobile connection, choose Balanced or Low data from the quality button in the session toolbar.
- Turn on connection stats to see frame rate, delay and whether you are connected directly or through the relay.
- If the other PC has two monitors, switch between them with the screens button.
- Use the keyboard button to send Windows key, Alt + Tab or open Task Manager on the remote PC.
Built-in Windows Remote Desktop vs a remote access app
Windows has its own Remote Desktop feature, but hosting a connection needs Windows Pro or higher, it is designed for the same network, and reaching a PC over the internet usually means router port forwarding or a VPN. A remote access app like Dhatas Remote works on Windows Home and Pro, across any networks, without changing router settings, and shows the person at the other PC exactly who is connecting.
Questions and answers
Can I access another computer without the other person knowing?
No. Dhatas Remote always shows a request with your PC name and ID, and the person must click Accept. During the session a red bar shows who is connected, with a Disconnect button. The only exception is unattended access, which the owner of that PC must set up themselves with a password.
Is it free to remotely access another computer?
Yes. Dhatas Remote is free for personal and business use, with no account and no session time limit.
Do I need the same Wi-Fi network?
No. Both PCs only need an internet connection. They can be on completely different networks.
Can I access a computer from my phone?
Not yet. Dhatas Remote currently runs on Windows 10 and 11. Android support is planned.
